BAREFOOT LUXURY IS SUSTAINABLE LUXURY
Sustainability is at the heart of Nay Palad Hideaway. Guided by our philosophy, Small is Beautiful, we recognize the natural beauty of our surroundings as our most precious resource. With deep respect for Mother Nature, we strive to minimize our footprint, embrace sustainability, and support the local communities and team that make our paradise thrive.
At Nay Palad, we craft unforgettable Barefoot Luxury experiences that reconnect our Guests with Nature. By treating the world as our shared home—with care, respect, and integrity—we create a space where everyone feels welcome and inspired. After all, we’re only visiting, and it’s our duty to leave this little slice of paradise better than we found it.
A Vibrant Ecosystem Full of Rare Wonders
The environment surrounding Nay Palad Hideaway is a lush, vibrant paradise teeming with extraordinary biodiversity. Siargao Island boasts 265 species of flora and 85 species of fauna, including 29 bird species in the Malinao area alone—some of which are incredibly rare. Among them, the Philippine Duck (Anas luzonica) stands out as a forest treasure, known for its family-oriented nature and vital role in maintaining ecological balance. Adding to the island’s natural marvels, the iconic Philippine Eagle, with its massive two-meter wingspan, soars above as a powerful symbol of grace and freedom. Every encounter with this thriving ecosystem is a reminder of nature’s beauty and resilience.

Ancient Mangrove Forests:Guardians of Life
The mangrove forest surrounding Nay Palad Hideaway is a natural sanctuary and a powerful ally in combating climate change. These blue carbon ecosystems absorb significant amounts of carbon dioxide—one mangrove tree alone can capture 308 kilograms of CO2. Spanning 104 hectares, this ancient forest includes mangroves over 350 years old and hosts 14 species, including rare ones that contribute to the ecological balance. In a single square kilometer, mangroves store as much carbon as the annual emissions of 35,000 cars. These extraordinary trees not only protect the environment but also serve as vital habitats, sustaining marine and terrestrial life while preserving the island’s breathtaking beauty for generations to come.

PRESERVE SIARGAO TODAY SO FUTURE GENERATIONS
CAN ENJOY ITS BEAUTY TOMORROW
This guiding principle shapes every aspect of Nay Palad Hideaway’s operations and community engagement. Committed to protecting this natural paradise, the resort goes beyond preservation, striving to leave a lasting, positive impact on the environment, local communities, and cultural heritage. Through sustainable practices, eco-conscious initiatives, and partnerships with local businesses, Nay Palad minimizes its footprint while celebrating the island’s unique charm.
Since joining The Long Run Initiative in May 2016, Nay Palad has embraced the “4Cs” framework—Conservation, Community, Culture, and Commerce—working hand in hand with local schools, artisans, and entrepreneurs to ensure that Siargao and its people flourish together.

THE LONG RUN
STRIVING FOR POSITIVE IMPACT TOURISM
The Long Run was founded in 2009 when a group of visionaries, leaders in Sustainability, from all corners of the globe gathered, seeking a better way to protect ecosystems and support communities through tourism in the long-term.
This meeting of minds resulted in The Long Run's industry-leading 4Cs framework: a holistic approach which emphasizes a balance of Conservation, Community, Culture, and Commerce. The Long Run Vision is a world where business, nature and people work harmoniously together for a more sustainable future.

THE LONG RUN 4C FRAMEWORK
The 4Cs is a framework that integrates sustainable and regenerative practices into any travel business. Designed by practitioners and experts, both proven and flexible, it makes strategic and holistic sustainability more accessible, breaking it down into four chunks:

Objective: Restore and protect Siargao’s marine and terrestrial ecosystems by advancing initiatives such as coral reef rehabilitation, and mangrove preservation, ensuring the island’s biodiversity thrives for future generations.
Blue Sanctuary Initiative
The coral reefs around Siargao have endured years of damage from dynamite fishing and natural disasters, leading to a decline in coral cover. In response, we launched an underwater Coral Nursery Unit (CNU) in partnership with local and global communities. Guests can actively join our efforts by participating in fish dome-making activities that provide habitats for marine life and a stable substrate for coral growth. These initiatives allow corals to recover in a safe environment before being transplanted to restore nearby reefs.

Mangroves for Life
Our ancient 104-hectare mangrove forest is a vital ecosystem that we are committed to protecting. Partnering with Mindanao State University, the Zoological Society of London-Philippines, and the DENR, we focus on biodiversity research, raising awareness, and identifying priority species, including the endangered Philippine Duck (Anas luzonica). This project emphasizes the ecological and economic value of mangroves and seagrasses while fostering resilience in this critical habitat.

Organic Farm
Our organic farm not only delivers a fresh “farm-to-plate” dining experience for our guests but also plays a vital role in reducing our environmental footprint. By transforming kitchen, restaurant, and landscaping waste into nutrient-rich compost using methods like vermicomposting, seaweed-based fertilizers, and bokashi fermentation, we create a self-sustaining cycle that nourishes the farm’s soil. These eco-friendly practices are a cornerstone of our commitment to sustainability and mindful living.

Objective: Empower local communities by creating sustainable livelihoods, fostering education, and supporting cultural traditions through partnerships and programs that build resilience and shared prosperity.

Siargao Community Projects
Nay Palad is an active partner of the Malinao community, particularly through its collaboration with Malinao Elementary School. This partnership focuses on empowering local youth by improving infrastructure and introducing projects like a vegetable garden to promote better nutrition, conservation awareness, and sustainable livelihood practices. Beyond education, Nay Palad supports initiatives such as rehousing residents, aiding fishermen in rebuilding boats after Typhoon Odette, and hosting medical missions, free clinics, and coastal clean-ups. These efforts aim to nurture a resilient and self-reliant community that thrives alongside the natural beauty of Siargao.

Compostela Rehousing Project
Through the Dekeyser & Friends’ Compostela Village Project, Nay Palad extends its reach to Cebu, uplifting disadvantaged families who once lived on the Umapad dumpsite. Founded by Bobby Dekeyser, this decade-long initiative provides homes and opportunities for 500 residents to break the cycle of poverty. Residents of Compostela receive free healthcare and skills training in farming, animal husbandry, entrepreneurship, and artisanal crafts like jewelry-making, sewing, and weaving. The project equips individuals with the tools to lead independent lives while ensuring their children have access to education. This transformative program exemplifies Nay Palad’s dedication to fostering hope and self-sufficiency.
Objective: Celebrate and preserve the rich heritage of Siargao and the Philippines by integrating local traditions, crafts, and culinary influences into the Nay Palad experience, fostering a deep connection between our Guests and the island’s identity.
Filipino Craftsmanship
Nay Palad Hideaway celebrates the artistry of Filipino craftsmen, incorporating traditional techniques into the resort’s modern design envisioned by architect Daniel Pouzet. From intricately woven banana leaf fibers to hand-carved furniture and accents, every corner of the resort reflects the mastery of local artisans. The roofs, crafted from natural nipa leaves using age-old methods, exemplify sustainability and cultural heritage. Guests of all ages are invited to connect with this tradition by participating in activities such as puso weaving, bracelet-making, or savoring a culinary journey that highlights authentic Filipino dishes.

Sampaguita – The National Flower of the Philippines
The sampaguita (Jasminum sambac), symbolizing purity, kindness, and strength, is celebrated throughout Nay Palad Hideaway. Its delicate fragrance fills every villa through scent diffusers and is infused into our exclusive line of shampoo, body wash, and lotion, crafted in partnership with a local Mindanao-based distributor. This collaboration not only showcases the enchanting aroma of the sampaguita but also promotes sustainable consumption by offering natural, eco-conscious alternatives to single-use plastics.

Jeepney: A Cultural Icon
Known as the "king of the road," the colorful jeepney is a beloved symbol of Philippine culture and art. At Nay Palad Hideaway, we honor this iconic vehicle with two customized jeepneys, designed by Daniel Pouzet, to transport guests in true Filipino style. Whether it’s a scenic ride from the airport or an adventure exploring Siargao, these jeepneys bring a touch of cultural authenticity to every journey while celebrating the vibrant heritage of the Philippines.

Objective: Operate as a responsible and financially viable business by prioritizing sustainable practices, reducing environmental impact, and reinvesting in projects that support conservation, community well-being, and cultural preservation.

Supporting Local Businesses
Operating as a responsible and financially sustainable business, Nay Palad integrates eco-conscious practices while delivering transformative guest experiences. Local sourcing lies at the heart of our operations: chefs collaborate with Siargao’s fishermen, foragers, and farmers to highlight island-grown ingredients in every dish. Spa treatments are performed by local practitioners using traditional, eco-friendly techniques that honor the island’s heritage. Additionally, the majority of our team members are from Siargao, ensuring the Hideaway directly contributes to the livelihood and growth of the local community.

Local Products “Made with Love”
Nay Palad’s dedication to sustainability extends to supporting local businesses and artisans. Our resort shop features handcrafted accessories and products made in Compostela, a sustainable village project supported by the Dekeyser & Friends Foundation. In the villas, guests will find natural-based skin and body care products infused with sampaguita, the national flower, created in partnership with a local manufacturer. Spa oils are handcrafted on-site using fresh, island-sourced ingredients like coconut oil and calamansi. These initiatives not only enhance the guest experience but also reinvest in local communities, promote conservation, and celebrate Filipino traditions.
